Haplogroup I is found almost exclusively in Europe where it is represented in about 20% of the population, making it the second most common haplogroup in western Europe, after R1b.  Overall, Hg I has a broad European distribution, from the British Isles east to the Ural Mountains of Russia and south to Anatolia and the Mediterranean Sea.  Hg I is divided into two main groups:  I1, concentrated in northwestern Europe and southern Scandinavia, and I2, concentrated in the western Balkan Peninsula, with the former being much more common than the latter. Distribution Map of Haplogroup I, released to the public domain by Hxseek at Wikipedia.

Labels in white are the SNP mutations; percentages are the frequency of Haplogroup I in the population.
So far, we have ten LYON(S) individuals in three families who are Haplogroup I1,
plus one non-LYON(S) who, with an upgrade in testing, may or may not prove to be connected as an NPE.

I would encourage all three of you to contact me and share your complete patrilineal line genealogy.  I would also encourage two of you to upgrade to 67 markers, to see how these matches hold up.

It may be premature to include the JAY here.  A 35/37 match can fall apart at 67 markers, so I urge the JAY to upgrade to at least 67 markers.  Certainly, 37 markers cannot be used to support an NPE in Haplogroup R1b.  Deep SNP testing could also confirm their relationship — or lack of one.

The five individuals tested to 37 or more markers are a tight genetic match indicating they have a near common ancestor, which strongly supports their paper genealogy.  The sixth individual has tested only 12 markers, so his placement here is tentative, but probably correct.  I urge him to upgrade to at least 37 or more markers.
#N122587 has taken the Geno 2.0 test, and his most downstream positive SNP is P109, which is a major division of Haplogroup I1 in this position on the I1 haplotree:  M253 > L22 > P109
I have not been able to document the identity of Alexander's parents.  Please see his page for a discussion of the issues.  If you have been able to document his parentage, please share.

UPDATE (26 Nov 2016):  I see on the LYON(S) project results page that #85724 is showing Samuel William LYON (1702- ) of Culpeper Co., VA, as his earliest ancestor, with the implication that he is the father of Alexander.
