Haplogroup I is found almost exclusively in Europe where it is represented in about 20% of the population, making it the second most common haplogroup in western Europe, after R1b.  Overall, Hg I has a broad European distribution, from the British Isles east to the Ural Mountains of Russia and south to Anatolia and the Mediterranean Sea.  Haplogroup I is divided into two main groups:  I1, which is concentrated in Scandinavia, and I2, which is concentrated in the Balkans, with the former being much more common than the latter. Distribution Map of Haplogroup I, released to the public domain by Hxseek at Wikipedia.

The above BURKS constitute Group II in the BURKS project at FTDNA.  Given their close match with these LYONs, it appears they are really LYONs, as alleged.  Files at WorldConnect suggest the two brothers (see lineages to the right) were the illegitimate sons of an alleged John LYON and an unknown female BURKS.  Certainly, the DNA evidence supports the same patrilineal LYON ancestor for both men.  I recommend #20348 upgrade to 37 markers to determine his value at CDYa
Several secondary sources have made our progenitor, John LYON, the 1673 immigrant to Maryland, son of "William LYON of Roxbury," who is so-called because he immigrated to Roxbury, MA, from Heston, Middlesex, England, in 1635.  Beyond the dual improbabilities that the son was born in England 14 years after the father left or that the son would immigrate to Maryland 38 years after the father immigrated to Massachusetts, Y-DNA testing shows that John's descendants are Haplogroup I2-L1498, while William's descendants are Haplogroup R1b-DF5.  People in different base haplogroups cannot have shared a common ancestor for thousands of years, much less be father and son.
