William2
BURKS, |
| One member of this group (#199358) has been deep SNP tested indicating
they are I2a2b. |
| The above BURKS constitute Group
II in the BURKS project at FTDNA. Given their 108/111 match with
these LYONs, it appears they are really LYONs, as alleged. Files
at WorldConnect suggest the two brothers (see lineages to the right)
were the illegitimate sons of an alleged John LYON and an unknown female
BURKS. Certainly, the DNA evidence supports the same patrilineal
LYON ancestor for both men. I recommend #20348 upgrade to 37 markers
to determine his value at CDYa. If we're lucky, this marker may
eventually help more closely identify their specific LYON ancestor. |
| Several secondary sources have made our progenitor, John LYON, the 1673 immigrant
to Maryland, son of William LYON of Heston, Middlesex, England,
then Roxbury, Massachusetts. Beyond the improbability
that the father would immigrate to Massachusetts, while the
son immigrated to Maryland, DNA testing shows John's descendants
are Haplogroup I2a2b, while William's descendants are a subclade
of Haplogroup
R1b. People in different haplogroups cannot have shared
a common ancestor for thousands of years, much less be father
and son. |

|
| It's hard to believe that this family is as close to the modal haplotype
of I-L161 as it is in Panels 1 thru 4, then as distant from the modal as
it is in Panel 5. What this suggests to me is that this modal was
compiled when the sample size for Panel 5 was much too small. I need
to go back and recompile the modal haplotype for I-L161. |
