Peter CORBIN
Elizabeth __?__
WARNING:  This Peter CORBIN is being confused with at least three other Peter CORBINs:
1)  The Peter CORBIN (c1740s- ) of Lexington Co., SC, who married Elizabeth SEAWRIGHT (and whose descendants are Y-DNA Haplogroup I1d, Norse Cluster).

2)  The Peter CORBIN (1731-1790), who lived in Dutchess Co., NY, and is said to have married Elizabeth SEABRIGHT.  This "couple" is a mixing up of the Dutchess County Peter CORBIN with the  Lexington County Peter CORBIN in what appears to be a mis-interpretation of an entry in the Appendix of Harvey Lawson's (1905) book, The Descendants of Clement Corbin of Muddy River.  The identity of the wife of the Dutchess County Peter CORBIN is, in fact, unknown.  Some allege the Dutchess County Peter CORBIN is a descendant of Clement CORBIN.  As a descendant of Clement has already been DNA tested (he is Y-DNA Haplogroup G2a), testing a patrilineal descendant of the Dutchess County Peter CORBIN would quickly determine whether or not he could be Clement's descendant.

3)  The Peter CORBIN (1745- ) of VA, who married Easter/Esther HOLDWAY (and whose descendants are Y-DNA Haplogroup I1, AngloSaxon2 Cluster).

Our subject is a different Peter CORBIN in a different Y-DNA haplogroup.  People in different genetic haplogroups cannot have had a common ancestor for thousands of years.
NOTICE:  several patrilineal descendants of our subject are participating in the CORBIN Y-chromosome DNA Surname Project.  Anyone who suspects they descend from our subject on a direct male line can support that connection with a DNA test.
Husband:  Peter CORBIN — founder of the "Pickens" CORBINs
Birth:  ca. 1740s, VA
Death:  1794/5, presumably in Pendleton Dist. [now Pickens Co.], SC
Will Signed:  7 Jun 1794, Pendleton Co., SC
Will Recorded:  Jun 1975
Y-DNA Haplogroup:  R-SRY2627

Numerous secondary sources give our subject these parents, but they had only one son, the Gawin CORBIN who married Elizabeth JONES.
Father notJohn CORBIN — of the Hall End CORBINs of Warwickshire, England
Mother notLettice LEE
In addition, a descendant of the Hall End CORBINs has been Y-DNA tested, and he is not a match with Pickens CORBINs.

Peter is the only CORBIN in Pendleton District, and I did a page-by-page search of the district.

1 female 26-44 1755-1774 = Elizabeth (b. 1755-60)
Samuel and John are married and enumerated as heads of their own households.  I can't find William, unless he's tallied here in the wrong age class; ditto James and Jesse/Jasper.  Or are these GORMAN children?  I suppose if the CORBIN boys didn't like their stepfather, they could be living with their grandparents.

4.  1810 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  William GORMAN not found, nor Elizabeth as head of household.  It's not obvious that she's living with any of her sons.

5.  1820 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  William GORMAN not found, nor Elizabeth as head of household.  It's not obvious that she's living with any of her sons.
