NOTICE: a patrilineal descendant of our subject is participating in the CARRICO Y-chromosome DNA Surname Project. Anyone who suspects he descends from our subject on a direct male line can support that connection with a DNA test. This individual's test results are a match for several tested descendants of Peter CARRICO, the 1674 immigrant to Maryland, so while we still don't know how our subject connects to the immigrant, the fact that he does connect is now proven.

Secondary sources do not agree on the identy of our subject's wife or his children. Some say his wife is Elizabeth; some say she is Catherine; I've found nothing to document her identity. As for the children, I'm supplying four different lists (below), beginning with one based on my own examination of what evidence I've found so far.

• Based on the 1810 census, Peter had two sons and two daughters. Joseph and James appear to have married sisters, which supports that they were probably brothers and making James the younger son. The age of the other daughter is a guess.

• Weaver states that the only proven children of our subject are Joseph and Elizabeth.
[Elizabeth appear to be the Ann Elizabeth / Elizabeth Ann / Anna Eliza of others. I've no explanation for the apparent discrepancy in the baptism v. birth years.]

• Peter's wife is too young to be Virlinda's mother; she can only be Peter's daughter if he had a prior wife and if he was born before ca. 1755, not just before 1765. The 15-year gap between Verilinda and the others would also signal a prior wife.
• If Verlinda truly was born in Princes Georges Co., MD, then the most likely candidates for her parents are Bartholomew & Winifred (PADGET) CARRICO, as the only CARRICOs known to be in the county that early.

One of the daughters has to be tallied in the wrong age class; and, if one was, it's most likely both were.

p. 427 Peter Carrico and William Hebb, a Revolutionary soldier, came from Eastern Virginia in 1790. Carrico settled where Gabriel Pulliam lives.

5c. Oren Frederic Morton. 1914. A History of Preston County, West Virginia. The Journal Publishing Co., Kingwood, WV:

p. 331 Peter, Francis, and Catherine Carrico arrived in 1786 on the Pulliam farm at the mouth of Wolf Creek. It is not known that their parents came with them. Of four brothers, one settled in Culpeper, one in Charles County, Maryland, and one in Kentucky. The sons of Francis went West. Peter had one son, Joseph, whose six sons lived mainly in Reno and Lyon.

p. 419 [poster is paraphrasing] …Peter is listed as being a brother to Francis and having 2 children, Joseph and Anne E., b. 1798. His wife's name is not listed.

The CARRICOs did split up into roughly these groups: one in northeastern Virginia (Prince William, Fauquier, and Culpeper Cos.), the apparent descendants of William CARRICO I; one in southwestern Virginia (Grayson and surrounding counties), the apparent descendants of Abel CARRICO I; one to Kentucky, the apparent descendants of Peter CARRICO II; and with some remaining in Charles Co., MD, their place of origin in the U.S. However, the split up occurred one, two, or three generations back from our subject. Was there another split up with his generation? Son Joseph did have six surviving sons, and they did settle in the Reno Twp. area, at least.
