Daniel WOTRING
Violinda CARRICO
Husband:  Daniel WOTRING
Birth:  28 Jun 1776, Whitehall Twp., Northampton [now Lehigh] Co., PA
Death:  15 Apr 1839, Aurora, Preston Co., VA
Religion:  Elder of the Reformed Church that merged with the Lutheran Church in Preston Co., WV
Father:  John Abraham WOTRING (1745-1809) of France and Bucks Co., PA
Mother:  Maria / Mary Margaret TROXELL (1744-1814) of Bucks Co., PA, and Washington Co., MD
Marriage:  ca. 1796
Wife:  Violinda / Verlinda CARRICO
Birth:  12 May 1777, Prince Georges Co., MD
Death:  17 Sep 1857, Aurora, Preston Co., VA

Secondary sources give her these parents, but there's no proof of the connection, and for the reasons given below, I believe it's an error.
Father said to bePeter CARRICO, b. bef. 1765
Mother said to be, but notCatherine __?__, b. 1765-84

Peter's wife in the 1810 census is too young to be Verlinda's mother; secondly, there is a 15-year age gap between Verlinda and the eldest of Catherine's known children.  If Verlinda is Peter's daughter, then he is older than we think he is, and he had a prior wife.  If Verlinda truly was born in Princes Georges Co., MD, then the most likely candidates for her parents are Bartholomew & Winifred (PADGET) CARRICO as the only CARRICOs known to be in Prince Georges County that early, not to mention that they have a hoard of unidentified children born ca. the 1770s.

There are no CARRICOs known from the region of Prince George Co., VA (in southeastern VA), but there are many from Prince Georges Co., MD.  The 1850 census shows that Verlinda was, indeed, born in MD, not VA.  Conversely, I would doubt that Abraham was born in MD, and the 1850 census shows him born in VA.

3.  1790 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  Daniel is not yet married, so we would not expect to find him enumerated in the census.  Even if he were married and enumerated as head-of-household, the entire 1790 census of VA was lost, so we wouldn't find him anyway.  The only WOTRING in the entire census is Abraham WOTRING in Washington Co., MD (p. 18L), who's listed 21 lines below Basil CARRICO.  Washington Co., MD, is some distance from Prince Georges Co., MD.  Was Verlinda really born in Prince Georges County?

4.  1800 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  not found, but the 1800 VA census was lost, and he is certainly in VA at this point.
