| Robert Lee Carrico IV, a.k.a., Robbie Carrico, was a semi-finalist
in the 2008 season of American Idol. He was born in 1981 in Beckley,
WV, a patrilineal descendant of Peter Carrico, 1674 immigrant to Maryland.
Peter arrived as an indentured servant with a group of English/Irish immigrants
on an English vessel. He settled in Charles Co., MD, and became a
tobacco farmer. The orthography of his name suggests it is Portuguese,
Spanish, or Italian, but Peter's actual origin is still unknown.
Peter was the only Carrico immigrant to America before the 20th century,
and today he has thousands of descendants. There is a Carrico
Y-DNA Surname Project in progress, a primary goal of which is to determine
Peter Carrico's origin.
