In 1674, Peter CURRICO / CARRICO arrived in Lord Calvert's Maryland
Colony — a haven for Roman Catholics, who were generally unwelcome in the
rest of the colonies. He came as an indentured servant with a group
of English/Irish immigrants on an English vessel. The orthography
of the name suggests it is Portuguese, Spanish, or Italian, but Peter's
origin is still unknown.
In 1629, Pero (Peter) Dias CARRICO of MontemoroNovo, Portugal, was condemned by the Spanish Inquisition for the crime of "Judaismo" and sent to prison. After four years of "inquisition," he confessed his "crime," paid his fines, converted to Catholicism, and was released in 1633. Nothing concrete connects the two Peters — both of whom are genuine (documented) individuals — but a connection would not be unreasonable given the extreme rarity of the surname. "The Cloud" is double-speak for "dumb terminal
on a main frame." Been there; done that. Never again.

The IT guys on the big iron hated the Personal Computer because it gave users freedom and power; now they've conned you into being back under their control. |
