William Jefferson ROSE
Margaret Elizabeth GIBSON
ATTENTION:  Our subject's descendants should be a close Y-DNA match with the Group L ROSEs, so I am seeking a male surnamed ROSE who is a patrilineal (direct male line) descendant of our subject for Y-DNA testing.  I'm offering to fully fund a 111-marker Y-DNA test (value $343), with these conditions:  that you share your lineage to the extent that I am satisfied you have a good paper connection to William Jefferson ROSE, that you join the ROSE project at FamilyTreeDNA, and that you agree to share your test results, which means signing the Release that comes with your test kit and uploading results to Ysearch.  This sharing of results does not mean you necessarily need to share your identity with anyone, except me.  If you are interested, please contact me.

Margaret Elizabeth (GIBSON) ROSE THOMPSON, born 7 December 1838, Arkansas, died 26 June 1931, Alameda, California, daughter of Joseph GIBSON of Madison County, Arkansas.  She married William Jefferson ROSE of Lauderdale County, Alabama in 1854 in Madison County, Arkansas and two years later they crossed the plains to California by wagon train with their little daughter Nancy.  The fascinating trip was dictated by her many years later and preserved by her daughter.  The first winter they lost their little daughter in what was then known as Fiddletown in the gold country.  They left that area and roamed up and down the Sierra Mountains while he sought gold, until his untimely death in 1879, leaving a large family.  She married again in 1885 in Monterey County, California to George Washington THOMPSON.  (Great-grandmother of Seymour T. ROSE.)
Margaret grew up in Arkansas, but she was born in Tennessee.  Seymour ROSE and his wife, Christine, are owners of the Rose Family Association, which publishes the Bulletin.  Margaret is my GG-grandmother and her second husband, George Washington THOMPSON, is my GG-grandfather.
