John is unmarried and living with his widowed mother in the 1850 census, so if he did marry first Katherine PRICE, the marriage was brief and, apparently, produced no children.

John Stroup, 1827-1905 Catherine Haas, his wife, 1835-1904 Mary, 1862-1862 Louisa, 1864-1864 John Jr., 1869-1869 Lydia,  1870-1870

The above information was on one tall monument with smaller stones where the people were buried.

Right next to Catherine was a stone which read: Catherine A. wife of CH? Haas [died ????? 1865, Age 65 years, 7 months, 16 days (This stone was in 4 pieces, had been stuck down into the dirt and was very difficult to read.)

Next to this stone was one that said Elizabeth Haas died Sept. 25, 1866  Age 28 years.

In the next row right beside John and Catherine's stones, were: [the stones of Daniel B. & Susanna (BARNER) STRAUB].

Daniel is John's brother.
