David Hostetler STROUP
Sarah Gertrude MINDS
Husband:  David Hostetler STROUP
Birth:  11 Nov 1868, Walnut, Beale Twp., Juniata Co., PA
Death:  1920-24, presumably in Sapulpa, Creek Co., OK
Occupation:  photographer, inspector (mining machinery), grocer
Father:  Levi B. STROUP
Mother:  Magdalena HOSTETLER

Secondary sources have David deceased 4 Nov 1918, but he obviously died after the 1920 census (and before the 1924 court case — see below).

Marriage (said to be):  21 Dec 1889, Clearfield, Clearfield Co., PA
Wife:  Sarah Gertrude MINDS
Birth:  24 Jan 1872, Ashland, Schuylkill Co., PA
Death:  5 Jun 1957
Occupation:  photographer
Sister:  Carrie MINDS, b. 14 Dec 1869, PA
Father:  Charles MINDS (b. 1834/5, PA); s/o James M. MINDS (1814-1886), of Ireland, & Anna C. MILLARD (1811-1889), of PA
Mother:  Anna Catharina / Annie Catherine KLEINGINNA (1840-1916), d/o Daniel KLEINGINNA (1811/2-1850s) & Catharine __?__, of PA

In Berks Co., PA, there was a singular family founded by Johannes KLEINGINNA, immigrant from Switzerland in 1738.  Many spellings of the name, which is Germanic, not Irish, are used by the descendants (see Keywords for examples).  Daniel is no doubt descended from this immigrant, especially as the trade of shoemaker ran in the family, but as Sarah had no children, it just isn't worth it (to me) to make the effort to prove the connection.

Adopted Child:
1.  David Ralph STROUP, b. 16 May 1914, OK; d. 6 Mar 2002, Sapulpa, Creek Co., OK
Keywords for search engines:  genealogy; USA, Unted States, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania; KLINGUINE / KLINEQUINEY / KLEINGINNIE / KLEINGINNA / KLEINGINNY / KLEINGINNI / KLINGINNEY / KLINGINI / KLINGENNE / KLINGENNI

12.  Harvey Hostetler.  1912 [reprinted 1970].  Descendants of Jacob Hochstetler.  Gospel Book Store, Berlin, OH 44610 (excerpt courtesy of Sue Davis), p. 713:
6608, David H. Stroup, 6607, 1313 Esplanade St., N.S., Pittsburg, Pa, was b. Nov. 11, 1868, at Walnut, Pa., and m. Dec. 26, 1889, Gertrude S. Minds, dau. of Charles Minds, Ramey, Pa., at death, and Catherine Kleinginnie.  Salesman.
Apparently the "at death" phrase refers to Charles's residence being Ramey [Clearfield Co.] at the time of his death (n.b., he is buried in Ramey).

MINDS (1814-1886), but has him dying in Schuylkill Co., PA, yet it appears (from his location in the 1880 census) that he most likely died in Clearfield County.

17.  STROUP v. BRITTAIN.  Oklahoma Supreme Court Case: 1924 OK 1, 105 Okla. 276, 232 P. 814 (online at the Oklahoma State Courts Network web site):  D.H. STROUP owned a store in Sapulpa, which he wanted to sell due to ill health.  STROUP is alleged to have made a verbal agreement with BRITTAIN to have him find a purchaser for the stock in the store, which BRITTAIN did (selling price $5100, to BRITTAIN's nephew, Mr. HORNE).  STROUP then refused to pay BRITTAIN a sales commission ($150), which BRITTAIN alleged had been promised.  During this period, STROUP became hospitalized, was declared incompetent, and his wife became his legal guardian.  STROUP's wife also refused to pay BRITTAIN the allegedly promised commission, so BRITTAIN filed suit against her, as her husband's guardian.  Verdict went to BRITTAIN.  The case was appealed and eventually made it to the State Supreme Court (to settle a legal technicality).  The date of the initial filing is not given, but our subject was obviously deceased by 1924.
