Children with Ann CLONINGER — born in Lincoln [now Gaston] Co., NC: |
It is not proven that these are their children;
it is merely probable.
1. Mary Frances "Polly" STROUP, b. 1821/2 2. Ephraim STROUP, b. 1823/4 Some secondary sources say these are the children of David's brother, Elias STROUP, by his prior marriage to an unknown CLONINGER. I don't know which connection is the correct one, but the literal fact is that we have solid proof that David had a prior wife surnamed CLONINGER and no hard evidence that Elias did. The censuses show Polly and Ephraim living with Ann's parents, Philip & Sarah (HOVIS) CLONINGER, in the 1830 and 1840 censuses (and Ephraim, still, in the 1850 census) suggesting very strongly that they're the children of a deceased daughter — and Ann was their only known deceased daughter at the time. |

Everything I have is online at this web site. I have no further information, so please don't write asking me if I do.
On the other hand, if you feel I've made an error, please don't hesitate to notify me, but in which case, There are over 18,000 pages on this web site, and I simply don't remember every page, much less every person on every page. |
