Adopted Children(?) / Nieces(?) — born in PA, possibly in Greenwood Twp., Juniata Co., PA:
These two girls are said to be our subjects' children, but they are not in our subjects' household in either the 1840 or 1850 censuses.  In fact, their presence in the household would be problematic because that would mean an extremely tight spacing of children for Hannah (viz., four children in three years), unless we're talking two sets of twins — or unless you want to argue that Hannah is Harriet and Susan is Lucinda and that both were enumerated twice in the 1850 census.
Harriet STRAUB / STRAUP, b. Jan 1834
Lucinda STROUP, b. Nov 1835

I don't know whose children Lucinda and the elder Harriet are, but they are not our subjects' because they are not in their household in either the 1840 or 1850 censuses.  George, Henry, and the younger Harriet are children of Jacob & Hannah (HACHENBERG) STRAUB, not Jacob & Hannah (GORDON) STRAUB.  So, of the seven children listed here, only Sarah and Wilson appear to be our subjects'.

10.  "Carroll County Biographies:  Jacob Straub."  A Goodly Heritage.  Supplement #1, Spring 1975 (online at the Carroll County "Illinois Trails" web site):
Jacob Straub (1808-1889) was the first of three brothers to come from Snyder County, Penna., to Carroll County.  He came to this country in 1854, and settled on a farm three miles west of Shannon.  Later he moved to Manson, Iowa, where he died.  In Pennsylvania, he had married Hannah Gordon; and they were the parents of five children: Harriet, the wife of John C. Atkins of Shannon; Lucinda, the wife of John Q.A. Clark of Savanna; Joanna, the wife of Benjamin F. Kramer of Florence in Stephenson County; Sarah; and Wilson Gordon Straub, of Manson, Iowa.
Jacob's other two brothers appear to be Henry Hahn STRAUB and George STRAUB.  And, yes, Jacob & Hannah (GORDON) STRAUB were the parents of five childen, but not these five.  Harriet and Lucinda were, at most, adopted.  Based on their own census records, Jacob & Hannah's first two children were Hannah and Susan, not Harriet and Lucinda.  Also, if Joanna & Benjamin moved to Florence, it was after the 1880 census because they were married in 1868 in Carroll County, then were in the 1870 and 1880 censuses of Carroll County.
