Capt. James M. CORBIN
Celia Barfield MUMFORD
Note:  a patrilineal descendant of our subject has been tested through the CORBIN Y-DNA Surname Project.  He is a close DNA match with the CORBINs of Baltimore Co., MD, who are descendants of Nicholas CORBIN, 1671 immigrant to Maryland from the Isle of Guernsey.
Husband:  James M. CORBIN
Birth:  ca. 1837/8
Death:  ca. 1869 (bef. 1870 Census)
Military Service:  Civil War:  Capt., Co. G, 1st Rgmt. Louisiana Cavalry
Y-DNA Haplogroup:  R1b-P312

On average, a man is four years older than his wife and marries for the first time at the age of 23.  These averages would place our subject's birth year at 1837 or 1838.
In the censuses, James's children variously give their father's birthplace as MD, OH, IN, or LA.

Marriage:  12 Dec 1860, St. Landry Par., LA
Wife:  Cilia / Celia Borfield / Barfield MUMFORD
Birth:  20 Dec 1842, LA or MS
Death:  12 Dec 1928, Waco, McLennan Co., TX
Disposition:  buried 13 Dec 1928, Oakwood Cemetery, Waco, McLennan Co., TX
Occupation:  homemaker, dressmaker
Father:  D. Madison MUMFORD
Mother:  Abigail M. SIMPSON

On average, a woman is 19 years of age at first marriage, so Celia's birthdate is reasonable.

Children — born in St. Landry Par., LA:
1.  James Mumford CORBIN, b. 22 Apr 1863
2.  (Probable Child) CORBIN, b. ca. 1865; d. bef. 1870
3.  Martha Louisa "Mattie / Lou" CORBIN, b. 19 Oct 1866 or 1867
4.  Mary / May / Mae C. CORBIN, b. ca. 1869
