Proteus CARRICO
Emily A. COLEMAN
NOTICE:  a patrilineal descendant of our subject is participating in the CARRICO Y-chromosome DNA Surname Project.  He is a 67/67 match with the modal haplotype for descendants of Peter CARRICO I, 1674 immigrant to Maryland.

Disposition:  buried Fort Jones Cemetery, Fort Jones, Siskiyou Co., CA
Occupation:  farmer
Y-DNA Haplogroup:  J-2a4b = J-M67

Our subject's parents are said to be (and almost certainly are) —
Father:  James CARRICO
Mother:  Theresa HAGAN

"Proteus" is a name from Greek mythology.

Marriage:  1 Feb 1846, Larue Co., KY
Wife:  Emily A. COLEMAN
Birth:  27 Dec 1826 [or 1823/4], KY
Death:  17 Jan 1911, presumably in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co.., CA
Disposition:  buried Fort Jones Cemetery, Fort Jones, Siskiyou Co., CA
Occupation:  homemaker
Children:
1.  William Henry CARRICO, b. 13 Sep 1846, KY; bap. 4 Jun 1847, St. Clare Catholic Church, Colesburg, Hardin Co., KY
2.  Thomas John CARRICO, b. Aug 1849, KY
3.  Josephine Ellen CARRICO, b. 29 Nov 1851, CA — prob. Vernon Twp., Sutter Co., CA
Keywords for search engines:  genealogy; USA, US, United States, California, Kentucky

Sources (n.b., Larue Co. was formed from Hardin Co. in 1843, the counties are adjacent; Sutter was an original county in 1850; Siskiyou Co. was formed in 1852 from Shasta Co., Klamath [now Del Norte] Co., and Oregon Territory):

1.  Jordan R. Dodd, ed.  1993.  Kentucky Marriages:  Early to 1850.  Liahona Research, Orem, UT (Broderbund CD-229):
Carrico, Matiest (sic) Coleman, Emly (sic) 1 Feb 1846 Larue Co.
This appears to be a garbled reading of our subject's marriage record — or a mis-hearing of the name by the clerk.

2.  Dolores Yadon Kennedy, compiler.  c1979.  Saint Clare Church, Colesburg, Hardin Co., Kentucky, established 1804: Church Records 1813-1899.  Ancestral Trails Historical Society, Vine Grove, KY (extract online at freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~boorom/carrico/kychlarue.html):
Carrico, William Henry, s/o Protus Carrico & Emily Coleman, born Sept. 13, 1846.  Spon. Teresa Metcalf, bpt. June 4, 1847
The sponsor is very likely this Teresa METCALF.  The association with METCALF reinforces the connection to James CARRICO of Hardin/Larue Co., KY, because his daughter married a METCALF.

3.  1850 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  Can't find, and I did a page-by-page search of Larue County.  They may already be in California because, although there was a pre-statehood census in California in 1850, two key "gateway" counties were lost (viz., San Francisco and Contra Costa).

On the other hand, if you feel I've made an error, please don't hesitate to notify me, but in which case,

please include a link to the page you are referencing.
There are over 18,000 pages on this web site, and I simply don't remember every page, much less every person on every page.
