Thomas BROWN
Bridget __?__ |
Many secondary sources have our subject married twice, first to Bridget __?__ and second to Martha (EATON) OLDHAM. However, please note that both Torrey and Savage (see below) consider them two different men as they have to be because 1) Bridget didn't die until 1681, yet Martha was married to her Thomas in 1656; 2) our subject died in 1688, while Thomas BROWN, husband of Martha, signed his will in 1690; and 3) in this will, Martha's husband mentions only Martha's children, not Bridget's. |
Husband: Thomas BROWNE / BROWN
Baptism: 10 Jan 1605, Church of St. Peter & Paul, Village of Lavenham, Lavenham Parish, Babergh Dist., SFK Death: 3 Nov 1688, Cambridge, Middlesex Co., MA Disposition: buried First Parish Cemetery, Cambridge, Middlesex Co., MA Migration: 27 Apr?/Jun? 1638, arrived Boston, MA, with Thomas LECHFORD party Event: 18 May 1666, admitted church, Cambridge Father: Edmund BROWNE Mother said to be: Anne WODER |
Marriage: |
Wife-1: Bridget __?__
Alleged Birth: 1605, Hawkedon, St. Edmundsbury Dist., SFK Alleged Death: 5 Jan 1681, Concord, Middlesex Co., MA Bridget's father is said by some to be the William BATEMAN whose will was proved 10 Oct 1658 in Fairfield, CT, but that will does not mention a daughter, Bridget. Also, while we don't know where William BATEMAN, himself, was born, we do know that one of his children was born in Toppesfield, Essex, so it's unlikely he's the father of any children born in Hawkedon, Suffolk. How do we know she was born in Hawkedon? If we had a birth record
for her, we should know her surname and the identity of at least her father.

Children with Bridget — born in Concord, Middlesex Co., MA: |
1. Boaz
BROWN, b. 14 Feb 1641/2
2. Mary BROWN, b. 26 Mar 1646; d. 11 Sep 1700, Cambridge, Middlesex Co., MA 3. Eleazer BROWN, b. 6 Jul 1649 |
These two children are attributed to our subject by secondary sources,
but I have yet to find anything to document the connection:
. Jabez BROWN, b. 14 Feb 1644 . Thomas BROWN, b. 1650/1 It's highly improbably (0.27% chance) that two consecutive children would be born on the same day of the year. So, is Jabez's birthdate a fabrication? Also, a male BROWN with a good paper connection to our subject through son Eleazer has been Y-DNA tested, and he is not a match with a male BROWN who is a patrilineal line descendant of Jabez. |

These are Old Style dates where the first day of the year is March 25th, so... For Boaz, the 12th month is not December, it's February, and the year is now 1642, not 1641. For Mary, the 1st month is not January, it's March, so her birthdate is now 26 Mar 1646. For Eliezer, the 5th month is not May, it's July, so his birthdate is now July 1649. 3. Everything I have is online at this web site. I have no further information, so please don't write asking me if I do.
On the other hand, if you feel I've made an error, please don't hesitate to notify me, but in which case, There are over 18,000 pages on this web site, and I simply don't remember every page, much less every person on every page. |
