E (n = 2 / 2) I1 (n = 2 / 2) I2 (n = 1 + 2 / 1) R1b (n = 7 + 1 / 5)

Haplogroup E is an ancient group believed to have dispersed westward from the Middle East around the Mediterranean, across northern Africa and southern Europe, as far as the British Isles.  It is the third most common haplogroup in Europe, after R1b and I1.

Both of our subjects have rare haplotypes, distant from their modal haplotypes and distant from each other, with no significant matches.

Samuel ELEY of Arkansas
Our subject has six matches at 12 markers, all in other surnames, but no matches, at all, at 25 or 37 markers.  The mutations in the volatile markers (DYS459, DYS464, and CDY) are rare and probably all happened in one mutation event.
Matches at 12 markers are most often not significant, so can be ignored.  But in this case, it's possible even a close relative of our subject may not have his rare mutations.  He may show up as only a 12-marker match with them, so it's important to pay attention to any match with the same or a phonetically similar surname.

What constitutes a match?
Matches in other surnames are usually mere coincidence, so please ignore them — I'll let you know when you shouldn't!
For 12 markers: 9 or less is a non-relative; for 10-12 markers, please see this table compiled by FTDNA.
For 25 markers: 21 or less is a non-relative; for 22-25 markers,
For 37 markers: 31 or less is a non-relative; for 32-37 markers,
For 67 markers: 59 or less is a non-relative; for 60-67 markers,
For 111 markers: 100 or less is a non-relative; for 101-111 markers,
For any test:  0 matching markers, please contact NASA.
