10.  The History of Straub Beer (online at the web site of the Straub Brewery in St. Mary's, Elk Co., PA — take link for full excerpt):
[To paraphrase:  Peter was "born" 28 Jun 1850 in Felldorf, Wuerttemberg, Germany, the son of Anton STRAUB & Anna Maria EGER.  He came to the U.S. in 1869.]

John N. Straub [of Hesse-Darmstadt] had settled in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania (currently Pittsburgh's North Side) where, in 1831, he opened a "brew pub" which grew into the J.N. Straub and Company Brewery.  Eventually, Straub and Company would merge with Eberhart and Ober to form the Eberhardt and Ober Brewing Company (located at Pennsylvania Route 28 and Interstate 279).  The brewery was located in the building now occupied by the Pennsylvania Brewing Co. - Penn Pilsner. It was with Eberhardt and Ober that young Peter secured employment under the managment of John Straub...

Peter... moved north to Brookville [Jefferson County], where he perfected his brewing process while working in the [Sebastian] Christ and Algeir Brewery...

He later moved to Benzinger (St. Marys), where he met and married Sabina Sorg of Benzinger.  The couple settled in Benzinger and had ten children: Francis X., Joseph A., Anthony A., Anna M., Jacob M., Peter M. (who died at two years of age), Peter P., Gerald B., Mary C., and Alphons J.

Peter found employment in Benzinger with the Joseph Windfelder Brewery and he worked there until he purchased the Benzinger Spring Brewery (founded by Captain Charles C. Volk in 1855) from his father-in-law, Francis Xavier Sorg.  It was then that Straub Beer was born; a smooth, old-world beer brewed to the same standards of quality and freshness as all the Straub beers since 1831.

The Eberhardt & Ober Brewing Company did not take over the J.N. Straub Brewery until 1883 (see sources below), so if Peter worked under John N. STRAUB, he had to have worked for the J.N. Straub Brewery, not Eberhardt & Ober.

History
Peter Straub, a German immigrant, trained in Germany as a cooper, a craftsman who made or repaired casks.  Desiring to be a brewer, he came to the U.S. in 1869 at the age of nineteen.  In Pennsylvania, Straub found work at the Eberhardt and Ober Brewing Co., later working at the Christ and Algeir Brewery and finally moving to Benzinger, PA (later renamed St. Mary's), where he worked for the Joseph Windfelder Brewery.  In 1872 Straub purchased the Benzinger Spring Brewery (founded by Captain Charles C. Volk in 1855) from his father-in-law, Francis Xavier Sorg, and Straub Beer was born.

12.  "Historical Society Tours Brewery, Learns Traditions." The Ridgway Record (Ridgway, Elk Co., PA), Wednesday, 17 Mar 2004 (online at www.ridgwayrecord.com):
...[Peter] initially settled in what is now Pittsburgh's North Side, and worked, coincidentally, at the John N. Straub Brewery & Co.  That brewery and the Eberhart & Ober Brewery consolidated in 1883 and sixteen years later, the two formerly separate companies joined with others to form the Pittsburgh Brewing Company.  Peter eventually moved north, working in various breweries in Brookville, Centerville (now Kersey), and others until he settled in St. Marys.  There, he was employed at the Benzinger Spring Brewery.

While working at Benzinger Spring, Peter married Sabina Sorg on Nov. 23, 1875.  Sabina was the daughter of the owner and operator of the brewery, Francis Xavier Sorg.  Peter and Sabina's married life was blessed with 10 children and today there are over 300 descendants.  Peter began purchasing the brewery from Mr. Sorg while working there.  Eventually, Peter assumed full ownership and oversaw the business until his death on Dec. 17, 1913.

After Peter's death, his sons operated the establishment and renamed it the Peter Straub Sons Brewery.  The name changed to the Straub Brewery Inc. in 1947...

13.  Eberhardt and Ober Brewing Company Records, 1882-1906.  RG 40, Historical Collections and Labor Archives, Special Collections Library, University Libraries, Pennsylvania State University (online at the Penn State Library web site):  the Eberhardt & Ober Brewing Company absorbed the J.N. Straub Brewing Company in 1883.
