In the 1900 Census (see his family group sheet), Wurtman shows Jun 1870 as his birthyear; others give him birthyear 1871. The year has considerable consequence because a birth in 1870 makes it possible that Thomas Gilbert ROSE is his father, and at least someone believed Thomas ROSE was his father because that's what the informant said on his death certificate. If the year really was 1871, it's unlikely Thomas was his father.
