There's an image of Jane's stone, and it's extremely weathered.  There's no image of William's stone, but if it's as weathered as Jane's, the discrepancies could be explained by the stone having been mis-read.  If he was 41 yrs old at death, it makes more sense for him to have died in 1871 because that's about when Jane stopped having children.
