If he was born in January and he's age 19, he should have been born in 1881, not 1880, and later records support 1881.

J.G. "Jim" Stroup, of the production department of the Phillips Petroleum Company, died recently at Pampa, Texas.  He first became connected with the oil industry at the age of 15 years, after finishing high school in Bradford, Pennsylvania, and first worked for his father, J.S. Stroup, who at that time was superintendent of the McCallimate Oil Company, which had large holdings in the old Bradford, McKean County, Pa., field.  From there the family moved to Montpelier, Indiana...

While going through my dad's baby book, I discovered that James Sidney Stroup (his grandfather and my great-grandfather) died November 28, 1915 at the age of 71.  I still do not know where he died but believe it to be in Indiana somewhere.  His wife, Mary Elizabeth Elliott Stroup died June 1907.
