2.  Census Index:  U.S. Selected Counties, 1850 (Broderbund CD-317):  the only Peter STRAUB indexed in the 1850 census is the one in Union/Snyder Co., PA, who was born in PA in 1809/10.  While our subject may have been missed in the census, there is some hope that the reason he was not indexed is that he is living with his parents.  The question is, where?  I have extracted all STRAUBs (and variations) from the 1850 census of Kentucky, and did not find him there.
