Jonathan Francis STRAUB
Catharine HENDRICK`S
Barbara STEFFEN
NOTICE:  a patrilineal descendant of our subject is participating in the STRAUB Y-chromosome DNA Surname Project.  Anyone who suspects he descends from our subject on a direct male line can support that connection with a DNA test.  This descendant's DNA test results do not match those of the other purported descendant of John STRAUB & Elizabeth STEELEY, so one of these test subjects has to have made a mistake in his paper genealogy or have an NPE in his lineage.  The other descendant has a much stonger paper connection to John, through his son, John STRAUB, Jr., so it appears our subject is the one with the bad connection.
Husband:  Jonathan Francis STRAUB / STROUP
Birth:  9 May 1821, Washington [now Penn] Twp., Union [now Snyder] Co., PA
Death:  2 Nov 1901, Chapman Twp., Snyder Co., PA
Occupation:  laborer, tailor, farmer
Y-DNA Haplogroup:  I1-Norse-D

Paper Father:  John STRAUB
Paper Mother:  Elizabeth STEELEY
Genetic Match:  John Peter TRAUB / TROUP

Our subject is genetically TRAUB, so either the paper connection to John & Elizabeth (STEELEY) STRAUB is wrong, or our subject is an adopted TRAUB, or Elizabeth had an illicit relationship with a TRAUB.  The test subject needs to test cousins (viz., 1st cousin, 2nd cousin, 3rd cousin, etc.) to determine the generation in which the NPE took place.
