Jesse H. STRAUB
Amanda __?__ |
Husband: Jesse H. STRAUB — is he Joshua STRAUB?
Birth: 1836/7, PA — presumably in Upper Macungie Twp., Lehigh Co., PA Death: 1880-1900 — presumably in Upper Macungie Twp., Lehigh Co., PA Occupation: coal and grain merchant Father may be: Joshua STRAUB Mother may be: Mary YERGER I cannot find Jesse as a child in any household in the 1850 census. The person I do find in 1850 — in Upper Macungie Twp., Lehigh Co., PA — is Joshua STRAUB, who is "living out" because his mother is dead and the family has split up (the father and children are all living separately). I do not find "Joshua" after 1850, but "Jesse" appears, instead. Whether Joshua's name was wrong in 1850 or whether he changed it later there's no way to tell — and if you think an enumerator couldn't make such an error, consider that the senior Joshua was enumerated as "Josephine" in the 1870 census. Turning Joshua into Jesse is a stretch, but appears to be the case, in part because there simply is no other STRAUB family in Upper Macungie Twp. to have been his parents. Needless to say, more documentation is needed to prove the connection. Note that both Joshua and Jesse are rare names for STRAUBs (and for Germans, in general). |

Everything I have is online at this web site. I have no further information, so please don't write asking me if I do.
On the other hand, if you feel I've made an error, please don't hesitate to notify me, but in which case, There are over 18,000 pages on this web site, and I simply don't remember every page, much less every person on every page. |
