Secondary sources claim Edward was born in Hoffer, Chapman Twp., Snyder Co., PA.  While Edward's father, Samuel, was born in Chapman Twp., there's no sign that Samuel lived in Chapman Twp. after he married.  Samuel was in Washington Twp. in the 1860 census and Center Twp. in the 1870 census, so Edward was presumably born in either Washington Twp. or Center Twp.

Obituary:  Albany Democrat Herald, Thursday,February 3, 1944 (frontpage) Phares Straub Dies at Halsey Wednesday Phares Straub, 85, of Halsey, died at the family home there at 1:15 P.M. Wednesday, Feb. 2. Funeral services are to be held from the Presbyterian Church of Brownsville, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, with Rev. R. E. Clark officiating.  Interment will be in the Brownsville Cemetery in charge of the Fisher Funeral home. Mr. Straub was born Sept. 13, 1858, at Freeburg, Penn., and had been a resident of Oregon for the last 35 years, of which 12 years have been spent in the Halsey neighborhood where he was engaged in farming.  He was married March 4, 1884 to Miss Maggie Hoffer, who survies him, as do three children:  Virginia Butts of Salem; Harry Edwin Straub, of Portland and Samuel H. Straub of Seattle; and nine grandchildren; and a brother, Edward Straub of Kansas.

Apparently our subject moved to Kansas between 1930 and 1944.  "Phares" [Sopharus] is actually our subject's half-brother.
