It is probable that the problems with this family group sheet stem from the fact that, in the 1790s, two different Andrew STRAUBs founded two different towns in Northumberland Co., PA:  Andrew STRAUB (1748-1802; wife Mary Eveline WALTER) founded Milton in 1792 and Andrew STRAUB (1770-1826; wife Barbara) founded Straubstown in 1796.  Milton is still in Northumberland County, but Straubstown became Freeburg and is now in Snyder County.  Andrew STRAUB, founder of Freeburg, is not the son of Andrew STRAUB, founder of Milton; they are not even related, at least not in America.  There is no evidence that the Andrew & Barbara "of Northampton" exist, but it appears that they, and the assertion that this Andrew is the son of the founder of Milton, are a version of the true family history, garbled by time.  That is, that the Andrew & Barbara who were thought to be from Northampton are really the Andrew & Barbara of Snyder/Perry Cos., and that the "founder" is Andrew, himself, not his supposed father.  Arguments against the "Northampton scenario" are:

1)  Andrew STRAUB, son of Andrew & Mary Eveline (WALTER) STRAUB, was born in 1788, not 1800, but even being born in 1788, he was still too young to be the father of children born 1797-1809.   We really need go no further to reject this family group sheet as fatally flawed.

2)  If you know much about the movements of people in early Pennsylvania, you know that it is extremely unlikely that someone born in Lancaster or Northumberland Co. would later be found living in Northampton/Lehigh Co. (i.e., people moved west, not east). 

3)  The only Andrew STRAUBs in Northampton Co. during this timeframe (between 1790 and 1810) were (Mathias) Andrew STRAUB, Sr. and (Mathias) Andrew STRAUB, Jr.  Neither man was married to a Barbara, and neither shows any of the above children.  (All of Mathias Jr.'s children have been accounted for and, while not all of Mathias Sr.'s children have been accounted for, all of them were too old to be any of the children in question.)  Note that the children of this line who went to Ohio settled in northeastern Ohio, in Trumbull/Mahoning County, while the children in question settled in central Ohio. 

5)  Andrew STRAUB, founder of Straubstown, Northumberland Co., PA [now Freeburg, Snyder Co., PA], did have a wife named Barbara.  Andrew and Barbara are the right age to be parents of these children, and most of their eleven+ children have not been accounted for, although they are known to have had an Andrew, a Joseph, and a Susanna.  Surely it is this Andrew & Barbara STRAUB to which the family tradition alludes and to which these children belong. 

I am a descendant of one of the Marion Co., OH, STRAUBs.  I have made contact with at least six different lines of descendants from these STRAUBs.  Several of them  have family legends of being descended from a "founder" in PA.  Three cling to the legend above, that is, of being descended from Andrew STRAUB, founder of Milton, despite the clear evidence that it cannot be true — not just isn't true, but cannot be true.  One line clings to the legend that they are descended from Col. Jacob STROUD, founder of Stroudsburg in Monroe Co., PA — despite the fact that Col. STROUD was a well-known Englishman and there is no doubt we STRAUBs are German (my grandfather said his grandfather spoke German).  Two lines have a family legend of being descendants of Andrew STRAUB, founder of Freeburg, and there is no obstacle to that legend being true.

While I have yet to find the kind of solid evidence one wants proving the connection of the Marion County, Ohio, STRAUBs to Andrew of Freeburg, all the circumstantial evidence points to there being such a connection.  I have found absolutely nothing that is inconsistent with such a connection, much less anything that disproves it.  UPDATE:  Y-chromosome DNA testing of one of Andrew S. STRAUB's descendants proves descent from Johann Pieter STRAUB I, the 1733 immigrant to Philadelphia (and grandfather of the Andrew STRAUB who founded Freeburg).
