George SURFACE
For the life of me, I can't figure out which George this is, in part because I can't be certain of his age, which is not clearly readable in the 1910 census.  The fact that he's a nephew of Sarah (DOSBAUGH) SURFACE should make it easy, but I've had no luck looking at the sons of her husband's brothers.
Subject:  George SURFACE / SURFUS / SURFAS / SEARFOSS / ZERFASS / ZERFACE
Birth:  1845/6 or 1855/6 or 1865/6?, IN
Occupation:  carpenter
Residence in 1910:  White River Twp., Johnson Co., IN
Keywords for search engines:  genealogy; USA, US, United States, Indiana

George's age is hard to read.  I see it as 54; the indexer saw it as 64.  Could it be 44?  As a nephew of Sallie's husband, George E. SURFACE (1836-1907), I would expect our subject to be younger, closer to the age of Mary, his first cousin.  This enumerator was incredibly sloppy, with very poor handwriting.  He erred with regard to Mary Ann's surname, could he have erred with regard to George's age?

Sallie and Mary Ann are sisters, that is, daughters of John DOSBAUGH & Mary KAUGHMAN.  Only Sallie married a SURFACE, namely, George E. SURFACE, which means our subject's father would have to be a brother of the late George E. SURFACE.  Mary Ann did not marry a SURFACE, thus her surname here is enumerator error.  Mary Ann has to be Sallie's sister, Mary (DOSBAUGH) CROUCH ANDREWS (once widowed, once divorced).  In 1912, Mary ANDREWS died in White River Township, and Sarah SURFACE was the informant on her death certificate.  "Cousin Mary" is Sallie's daughter.

Listed nine households from Wilford SURFACE (æ 60, b. IN) and wife, Virginia (æ 45, b. IN' 0 | 0), plus sister-in-law, Elllen BERGER (æ 35, b. IN).
