NOTE: Rebecca STEPHENS had children out of wedlock with at least three different men before she finally married in 1912. In addition to the usual family group sheets with the male as head-of-household, I've created this consolidated family group sheet with Rebecca as the head in an attempt to reconcile the census records with each other and with the alleged birth order and paternity of the children as given by secondary sources. Unfortunately, I simply cannot make sense of what I have. Even if we assert that Rebecca was simultaneously having affairs with George ROSS and Percy WOLVERTON, the ages of the children in the censuses do not make sense, unless we also assert gross enumerator errors, which does appear to be the case, especially in 1910. Rebecca is alleged to have had a premarital affair with her first cousin, Elmer Ellsworth CORBIN, resulting in a son, Wilber E., who was later adopted by Rebecca's husband, Benjamin Harrison ROBISON. DNA testing has shown that Wilmer E. ROBISON cannot possibly be Elmer's biological son because a descendant is Haplogroup R1b1 and these CORBINs are Haplogroup G2a. This mismatch raises the question as to whether Rebecca actually had a relationship with Elmer CORBIN, at all; however, if they had no children, it's of no genealogical significance whether they did or not. What is genealogically significant is that Wilmer's son is a genetic match with STEPHENS, which raises the question as to whether she had an affair with one of her STEPHENS kin — or the darker question of whether she was abused by one of them.
