Abia P. STACKHOUSE
Julia Emita WHITACRE
Esther MENSER
Husband:  Abiah / Abia / Abi P. STACKHAUS / STOCKHOUSE
Birth:  1811/2, OH
Occupation:  farmer
Marriage-1:  2 Feb 1830, Columbiana Co., OH
Wife-1:  Julia Emita WHITACRE
Birth:  1810-20
Death:  1842
Occupation:  homemaker
Father:  Mahlon WHITACRE (1783-1847)
Mother:  Phoebe BECK (1787-1849)
Marriage-2:  15 Sep 1842, Wood Co., OH
Wife-2:  Esther/Hester/Ester MENSER
Birth:  1822/3, OH
Occupation:  homemaker
Sister:  Caroline (MENSER) CUPP

NOTE:  Hester is said to have first married Oliver Perry CUPP, son of Philip & Elizabeth (MESSAMORE) CUPP and brother of Jackson CUPP, who married Hester's sister, Caroline MENSER.  Hester is said to have had two sons with Oliver, Samuel and John, and it is said that Oliver died after the birth of John.  The problem with this scenario is that 1) Hester married Abia STACKHOUSE as Hester MENSER, not Hester CUPP — so even if she had had two sons with Oliver, they would have been illegitimate and, thus, should have been surnamed MENSER; 2) the Samuel CUPP and John CUPP living with Abia & Hester in the 1860 census are not Hester's sons, but her nephews — sons of her deceased sister, Caroline (MENSER) CUPP; and 3) Oliver Perry CUPP did not die ca. 1840, he married Margaret FOOR in 1845 and was still alive at least as late as the 1880 census.

Secondary sources have mis-interpreted this record to mean that Samuel CUPP and John CUPP are Esther's sons from a prior marriage (to Oliver Perry CUPP), but they are not; they're the sons of Esther's deceased sister, Caroline (MENSER) CUPP.  Note that son Samuel STACKHOUSE from the 1850 census is still here and is still Samuel STACKHOUSE; that is, the Samuel STACKHOUSE in 1850 was not the Samuel CUPP in 1860.
