If Margaret really died in 1905, then she and James must have divorced by 1897.  Secondary sources are calling her Margaret Mary, apparently assuming she is the woman in the 1900 census, but it appears the Mary in 1900 is Mary SHAW (see below).

Mary is age 43, not 33, which explains why they had no children together (most women have stopped ovulating by the age of 43).  Also, most of the children's birthdates are off, which is understandable if Mary was the informant because they are not her children (women tend to have the birthdates of their children indelibly etched in their memory).
