WARNING:  One secondary sources disagrees with our subject's parentage.  I have not seen the primary records, myself, so I don't know who is correct.  This source claims a baptismal record for a son of Simon Peter named Johann Michael who was born 30 Jul 1705.  If the baptismal record is correct, the question then becomes whether the Johann Michael who died on 6 Dec 1762 in Lancaster [now Lebanon] Co., PA, is the one born 30 Jul 1705 in Bavaria to Simon Peter, and part of the disagreement seems to arise from a dispute over the tombstone reading.  There is a photograph of the stone online [link died], but, as far as I'm concerned, it's illegible.

It's hard to believe two people could read the same record and one come up with January and the other February, and one come up with KAPP and the other KOPF.  The difference between the former is trivial, while the difference between the latter may be highly significant.

1c.  U.S. Geological Survey.  Geographic Names Information Service.  According to the GNIS, there is no such place as "Moden Creek" anywhere in Pennsylvania, but there is a Muddy Creek in Lancaster Co.  "Modder" in German means bog or swamp.  It looks like "moden" is a misreading of a misspelled "modder."

NAMES OF EARLY SETTLERS IN TULPEHOCKEN, BERKS AND LEBANON COUNTIES.

As early as 1723, thirty-three families of Germans, who had come to New York 1710, settled in Schoharie 1713, left there and located on Tulpehocken Creek; among these were...

p. 466 The first settlers in Tulpehocken were Lutherans and German Reformed.  Rev. Tobias Wagner was the first pastor of the Lutheran Congregation.  The following is a List of the members of the Tulpehocken Church, from 1743 to 1746:

The big question is:  Is the Andrew KAPP who came to Tulpehocken in 1728 the same one who appears there in the 1740s?  The five KAPPs in Tulpehocken in the 1740s are considered to be brothers ("Cass" is obviously a misreading of "Cap"), who immigrated to Pennsylvania in the 1730s.  So if, as it seem probable, these are two different Andrew KAPPs, how does the one from New York relate, if at all, to the ones there in the 1740s?  And, in any case, how are we going to separate their children?!
