William C. HUDSON
Jane McCLURE |
Please Note: We need to explain the two McCLURE girls in the 1850 census with our subjects. Normally, I would read this record to mean that Jane had a prior marriage to a McCLURE, and that the girls are her daughters, which would mean McCLURE is the surname of her previous husband, not her maiden name, which casts doubt on her being the daughter of Nathaniel & Grace (GALLAGHER) McCLURE. Nathaniel & Grace did have a daughter, Jane, who would have been about this age and born in KY, but the girls were born too late to be Jane's sisters. So, are they Jane's nieces? Or are they her illegitimate daughters? |
