Elijah HOWARD
Louisa BLUNT
Please Note:  there are issues regarding this family group sheet that I was unable to resolve based on only the census records.  Please consider this page tentative.
Husband:  Elijah "Logie" HOWARD
Birth:  Jan 1855, LA or MS
Occupation:  farm laborer
Parents:  born in VA or MS
Marriage:
Wife:  Louisa BLUNT
Birth:  1855/6 or 1859/60 or Feb 1865, LA, possibly in Assumption Par., LA
Occupation:  homemaker
Father:  Jefferson BLUNT
Mother:  Eliza __?__
Children born in Assumption Par., LA:
  1.  Fletcher HOWARD, b. Dec 1887; d. 1972; m. Viola JOHNSON (1900-1971)
  2.  Olivia HOWARD, b. Apr 1890
  3.  Rebecca HOWARD, b. Mar 1893; m. Adam JOSEPH
  4.  Chester HOWARD, b. Oct 1894; d. 1958
  5.  Mary Jane HOWARD, b. Oct 1895; d. 1988
  6.  Ingenetta / Ingerretta HOWARD, b. Sep 1896
  7.  Viola HOWARD, b. Sep 1897
  8.  Rufus HOWARD, b. Mar 1900; d. 1978
  9.  Annie HOWARD
10.  Anastasia HOWARD
Step(?)-Children born in LA:
.  Eliza FOLSE, b. 1878/9
.  Liza FOLSE, b. Mar 1882; m. Ernest WASHINGTON
.  Jeff FOLSE, b. Sep 1883
.  (Male) FOLSE, b. Aug 1885

Eliza and Liza are probably the same person.  The fact that, in the 1900 census, Louisa indicates having had 13 children suggests she considered the three FOLSE children hers, though it could also mean that there were three more HOWARD children who died in infancy and whose names we do not know.  It may be that the FOLSE children were adopted, but like many adoptive parents, they made an effort to make no distinction between their adopted children and their biological children.

Obviously, the enumerator was using "daughter-in-law" to mean something other than its current definition.  Is this Eliza FOLSE in 1880 the Liza FOLSE in 1900?

I can't make sense of this record, even if we grant that Louisa has shaved a decade off her age.  It says our subjects have been married 20 years, yet the three FOLSE children would appear to be Louisa's from a former marriage.  Or were they her niece and nephews?  But if so, why are they not listed as step-children?

This image was faded and very difficult to read at both Genealogy.com and at Ancestry.com.  My extraction may not be entirely accurate.
