George Washington GLOVER
Elizabeth HONEA
Elizabeth A. P. AKINS
Husband:  George Washington GLOVER
Birth:  22 Jun 1806, GA
Baptism:  1823, Big Cove Baptist Church, Madison Co., AL
Death:  23 Mar 1869, Concord, Carroll Co., TN
Disposition:  buried Concord Missionary Church Cemetery, Concord, Carroll Co., TN
Occupation:  farmer, clergyman
Religion:  Baptist
Father said to be, but unprovenJames GLOVER
Mother said to be, but unprovenHannah KING

It's a virtual certainty that George is descended from one of the brothers who came from Georgia to Madison Co., AL, but the question is, which one?

Marriage-1:
Wife-1:  Elizabeth HONEA / HONEY
Birth:  1800, SC
Death:  Jun/Jul 1854, Carroll Co., TN
Occupation:  homemaker
Brother(?):  Thomas HONEY, b. 1810-20
Marriage-2:  29 Jul 1854, Carroll Co., TN:
Wife-2:  Elizabeth A. P. AKINS
Birth:  1816/7, TN
Occupation:  homemaker
Children with Elizabeth HONEA — born in Carroll Co., TN:
  1.  Hiram J. GLOVER, b. ca. 1826; 1870 Census, Henderson Co., TX
  2.  Joel B. GLOVER, b. 1827/8; d. 1863
  3.  Francis Marion GLOVER, b. 1831/2
  4.  Alfred P. GLOVER, b. 1833/4; d. 20 Mar 1864
  5.  Julia Ann GLOVER, b. 1836/7
  6.  James R. GLOVER, b. 1838/9
  7.  Martha E. GLOVER, b. 1841/2
  8.  Eliza Ann GLOVER, b. ca. 1845

If the marriage date of George & Elizabeth ATKINS is correct, the next two children were either Elizabeth HONEA's before she died or Elizabeth ATKINS's from a prior marriage.  Given Elizabeth ATKINS's age when she married George, it is very likely she had a prior marriage and very probable that George would adopt the children, giving them his surname.  Either that or she and George had two children out of wedlock before they married, which seems an unlikely thing for a clergyman to do.

10.  Mary Jane GLOVER, b. ca. 1852/3
11.  George Washington GLOVER, Jr., b. 29 Jun 1854; d. 21 Sep 1892, Carroll Co., TN

On the other hand, the ordering of the children in the 1870 census suggests that George is her son.  This would make more sense if the date for the second marriage were wrong.

Children with Elizabeth ATKINS — born in Carroll Co., TN:
11.  George Washington GLOVER, Jr., b. 29 Jun 1854; d. 21 Sep 1892, Carroll Co., TN
12.  Andrew Johnson GLOVER, b. 28 Feb 1858; d. 6 Feb 1926, TX

This enumerator's handwriting was a misery, in addition to the record being badly faded.  Listed four households from George's son, Francis GLOVER.

6.  1870 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #9 of 17):  McKenzie P.O., District No. 3, Carroll Co., TN, Roll M593_1517, p. 304A, PN 9, 58/58, enumerated 12 Jul 1870, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1870 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):

______ Adam 12 M W Work on farm     Tennessee
______ Eliza 20 F W       Tennessee
Weathespoon Mark 18 M W Work on farm     Tennessee
Is Eliza listed out of order to signify she isn't Elizabeth's daughter?  It would seem so, but then it would also signify that George is her son.  And has Eliza shaved 4 or 5 years off her age?  Of course, "Adam" should be "Andrew."  Listed next to Elizabeth's step-son, Francis GLOVER.

7.  1880 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #4 of 27):  District No. 3, Carroll Co., TN, Roll T9_1246, p. 32D, PN 4, SD 4, ED 10, enumerated 1 Jun 1880, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1880 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):

Eliza is too old to be Elizabeth's granddaughter.  Is she George's daughter by his first wife?  If so, and if she's a widow, why is her surname GLOVER?  Did she marry a GLOVER?  Are the two younger girls her daughters?
