Sarah Abigail CUPP |
Subject: Sarah Abigail "Abby" CUPP
Birth: 1799/1800, VA Death: aft. 1850 Father: Jacob CUPP Mother: Sibby BREEDING |
Children: |
1. Susanna "Susan/Susie" CUPP, b. 1819
2. Jacob S. "Jake" CUPP, b. 10 Apr 1822, Wythe Co., VA 3. Daniel Perry CUPP, b. 1820-25 4. Adeline "Adie" CUPP, b. 17 Feb 1831, Claiborne Co., TN 5. Aham CUPP, b. 6 Jun 1834, Claiborne Co., TN |
Some secondary sources give this Adeline, b. 1814/5, as Abby's daughter,
but she is a different Adeline. Abby's daughter, Adeline, was born
in 1831.
. Adeline CUPP, b. 1814/5 Some secondary sources give Charles and Ransom CUPP as Abby's sons,
but males of that age class do not appear with Abby in any census.
Males this age do appear in the census with Abby's parents, Jacob &
Sibby (BREEDING) CUPP, so I believe they are Abby's siblings, not her children.
Also note that Abby was very young to have had a child by 1816 — not impossible,
but more reasonable that Susan was her first child.
Some secondary sources give Mary A. CUPP, wife of Stephen DRUMMOND,
as Abby's daughter, but I don't see how she can be. Mary is given
the birthdate of 30 Jan 1820, yet the 1850 Census shows her to be born
in 1822/3. If she was born in 1822/3, then she cannot be Abby's daughter
because no female shows up in that age class with Abby in any census.
If Mary was, indeed, born in 1820, not 1822/3, then she takes the place
of Susanna as Abby's eldest daughter in the 1820 and 1830 Censuses.
However, Mary did not get married until 1842, so she should still be with
her mother in the 1840 Census, but the only daughter living with Abby in
1840 was Adeline, so I don't believe the daughter in 1820 and 1830 is Mary.
Mary may be Abby's sibling.
