| Warning: some workers are
showing our subject as the son of John
CORBIN I & Elizabeth ELLIOTT. There are several problems
with this connection, but the main one is that John CORBIN I had emigrated
to Virginia in 1652 — 25 years before our subject was born. John
& Elizabeth did have a son, John
CORBIN II, but he was born in 1671 in Richmond Co., VA, and
he married Elizabeth SMITH. These John CORBINs are the founders of
the
"Northern Neck" CORBINs of Virginia, so called because Richmond
Co., VA, is on the northernmost of the three necks (peninsulas) of Virginia
extending into Chesapeake Bay.
This bad connection is further compounded when these same workers make John CORBIN I the son of Henry CORBIN & Alice ELTONHEAD of Hall End, Warwickshire, and Lancaster [now Middlesex] Co., VA (on Virginia's Middle Neck) — known as the "Hall End" CORBINs. In addition to the fact that Henry & Alice had no son John (i.e., no such son is mentioned in Henry's will or in Alice's), Henry emigrated to Virginia in 1654 — 21 years before our subject was born. In addition, Y-DNA testing has shown that the Northern Neck CORBINs and the Hall End CORBINs are not related to each other. We very much need a male CORBIN who is a patrilineal descendant of our subject to join the CORBIN Y-DNA Surname Project and be tested, so we can at least connect him to the correct biological family. |
