James Harley CORBIN
Elender Caroline __?__
Husband:  James Harley CORBIN
Birth:  2 Aug 1821, Pendlton [now Pickens] Co., SC
Death:  29 Apr 1875, Castor Twp., Stoddard Co., MO
Occupation:  farmer, shoemaker
Father:  James CORBIN
Mother:  Sarah Ann SITTON
Marriage:
Wife:  Elender "Ellen" Caroline __?__
Birth:  13 Apr 1823, TN
Death:  23 Dec 1887, Castor Twp., Stoddard Co., MO
Occupation:  homemaker

Secondary sources show her surname as "CAIRLIEND," but there simply is no such surname.  I get no hits on it in any search, except in genealogies containing Caroline.  In particular, I get no hits in any census.  The name came down in a family history, so it's likely this is a misspelling of some "real" surname, but I can't sound out what it is.  Could it be CHASTAIN/CHASTEEN?  There were some in both Lumpkin Co., GA, and Stoddard Co., MO.  Or could it be a mis-reading of CARLISLE?

Children:
— born in Lumpkin Co., GA:
1.  Sarah Elizabeth CORBIN, b. 1840/1
2.  Martha E. CORBIN, b. 1844/5 or 4 Apr 1843
3.  Juliann / Julia Ann CORBIN, b. 1845/6
4.  Andrew CORBIN, b. 1846/7

— born in Castor Twp., Stoddard Co., MO:
5.  Joseph Warren CORBIN, b. 1847/8
6.  James [Bartlett] "Bartley" CORBIN, b. 3 Jan 1850; d. 29 Oct 1929
7.  William W. CORBIN, b. 1854/5
8.  Matilda Adaline CORBIN, b. 1856/7
9.  Henry Nelson CORBIN, b. 1863/4

Some of the children are shown by secondary sources as "born in Bloomfield."  Our subjects did not live in the Bloomfield Post Office (see census records below).  They were farmers; they lived out in the country, in Castor Township, and picked up their mail at the post office in Bloomfield.  These were the days before rural mail delivery, so farmers had to drive into town to get their mail.

These data indicate:
No. & Sex Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 15-19 1820-1825 = James (b. 1821)
1 female 5-9 1830-1835 = ?
1 female 15-19 1820-1825 = Caroline (b. 1823)
1 person employed in agriculture
Surely, they are too young to have a child 5-9 years old.  Is she a sibling?  Or has she been tallied in the wrong age class and should be less than age 5?  If so, she appears to have died before 1850.
