Henry CORBIN
Sarah Elizabeth GILLETTE
Martha A. __?__
America __?__
Please Note:  the fact that our subject shows up with Moses & Harriet CORBIN in the 1860 census, but not the 1850 census, should alarm us to the possibility that he was adopted.  This is surely a case where Y-DNA testing of a patrilineal line male CORBIN descendant could tell us.

2.  1850 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  can't find Henry.  William GILLET (æ 28, b. GA) and his wife, Queen Esther GILLET (æ 14, b. GA), are living in Madison Co., FL (p. 113B).  Listed next to them is Elizabeth REVELS (æ 45, b. GA), presumably Queen Esther's widowed mother.

3.  1860 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  Henry CORBIN (æ 14, b. FL) is living in Lafayette [now Dixie] Co., FL, with his presumed parents (q.v.).  Sarah E. GILLET (æ 9, b. FL) is living in Lafayette Co., FL (p. 982), with her widowed mother, Queen E. GILLETT (æ 25, b. FL), plus siblings.  They are listed four households from Henry.

4.  1870 U.S. Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  can't find Henry or Sarah.

5.  1880 U.S. Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  can't find, along with most of the other CORBINs who should be in Lafayette County.

6.  1885 Florida State Census: Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #56 of 81):  LaFayette [now Dixie] Co., FL, Roll M845_6, p. 14D or 56, enumerated 20 Jun 1885 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):  This enumerator's handwriting is abominable; I did the best I could.  The enumerator left most columns blank, including visitation, so there's nothing to distinguish households.  I extracted the adjacent CORBINs.  The enumerator was surely lazy and not following instructions, so how much else is erroneous?

I don't know what to make of this record.  I feel like there has to be a hint of truth among the errors.    Is Sarah really his wife?  Are the three boys his sons?

In no other census is Henry enumerated as a mulatto, and if he were, why are his children not also enumerated mullato?
