The detachment of Rachel M. CARICO and William H. BANKS in the 1880 census appears to be some kind of error, one recognized by the enumerator because there is a note on this supplemental page (319A) that these two individuals (the only ones on the page) belonged somewhere else.  Unfortunately, the page is torn, so you can't read much of the note.  Rachel M. CARRICO is said to be the daughter of William David CARRICO & Mary Charlotte GARY, enumerated on p. 308B, while William H. BANKS is said to the son of Thomas H. BANKS (1819- ) & Catherine JORDAN (1819/20- ), enumerated on p. 309A.  I don't suppose we'll ever know exactly why they showed up together on this "Supplemental" page, although the fact that both are deaf and dumb may have had something to do with it.

6.  1910 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  can't find either William or Mary, and I really looked.  I paged though the C's in the hospital patient list (the list is alphabetized), but didn't find our subject.  The fact that I can't find any of them suggests they're together and were simply not enumerated.

Everything I have is online at this web site.  I have no further information, so please don't write asking me if I do.
On the other hand, if you feel I've made an error, please don't hesitate to notify me, but in which case,

There are over 18,000 pages on this web site, and I simply don't remember every page, much less every person on every page.
