Thomas Ignatius CARRICO VI
Rachel KIRK
Rebecca __?__
Elizabeth J. RAY
Husband:  Thomas Ignatius CARICO / CARRICO VI
Birth:  1 Oct 1820, KY
Death:  23 Jul 1903, probably in Posey Twp., Clay Co., IN
Occupation:  farmer, cooper, liveryman
Father:  Vincent CARRICO
Mother:  Mary ELDER

Virtually every secondary source gives him middle name, "Ignatius," so I'm going along with it, but in fact I've yet to find a primary record with a middle name or even a middle initial.

Marriage-1:  1 Mar 1844, Orange Co., IN
Wife-1:  Rachel KIRK
Birth:  1825/6, IN
Death apparently:  not long after the 1850 census
Occupation:  homemaker
Father:  Jeremiah KIRK (1791-1870) of VA
Mother:  Mary GERKING (1792-1870) of VA
Marriage-2:
Wife-2:  Rebecca __?__
Marriage-3:  23 Sep 1858, Parke Co., IN
Wife-3:  Elizabeth J. "Betsy" REA / RAY
Birth:  1829/30, IN
Occupation:  homemaker
Father:  William RAY (1798-1868)
Mother:  Laura RICE (1808-1865)
Children with Rachel KIRK — born in North West Twp., Orange Co., IN:
1.  William CARRICO, b. 1844/5
2.  Mary E. CARRICO, b. 1845/6
3.  Lucinda CARRICO, b. 15 Nov 1846; d. 9 Jul 1901, Fulton Co., IL; m. 8 Apr 1865, Clay Co., IN, James K.P. YOCUM (1847-1919)
4.  Jeremiah CARRICO, b. 1848/9
Child with Rebecca — born in IN:
5.  John CARRICO / CARICO, b. 1857/8

John was born apparently well after Rachel's death, but before Thomas's marriage to Elizabeth RAY.  On one of John's marriage records, he gives his father's name as "Thomas," but his mother's name as "Rebecca."  Despite the fact that Thomas's obituary says he married only twice, I'm inclined to think he had a wife (or mistress) between his marriages to Rachel and Betsy.  Newspapers are notoriously bad at getting facts correct, and we don't know how well-informed the author of the obituary was.  Either that or Rachel was Rachel Rebecca KIRK, but that means we have to posit the loss of some three children between Jeremiah and John, which is possible, but I think it's more likely Thomas had a wife unknown to the author of the obit.

Children with Elizabeth J. RAY:
— born in IN:
6.  Thomas CARICO, b. 1861/2
7.  Ida M. CARICO, b. 1863/4
8.  Olive Blanche "Olie" CARICO, b. 1867/8

— born in Posey Twp., Clay Co., IN:

Sarah can't be age eleven; she didn't show up in the 1870 census.  As the 1900 census shows, she was born in July 1870, so would have just missed the census that year.

Thomas Ignatius Carrico was born in Kentucky, October 1, 1820.  He departed  this life July 23, 1903, aged 82 years, 9 months and 22 days.  At the age of  nineteen he came from Kentucky with his parents to Mt.
