James Monroe CHRISMAN
Dorcas HODGES
Husband:  James Monroe CHRISMAN/CHRISTMAN
Birth:  23/25 Feb 1834, Jackson Co., MO
Death:  6 Mar 1900
Disposition said to be:  buried Chrisman Cemetery, Prairie Twp., Jackson Co., MO
Father:  Gabriel CHRISMAN, descendant of Jacob CHRISMAN of Alsace-Lorraine
Mother:  Cynthia PARSONS
Marriage:  21 Mar 1858, Cass Co., MO, by Henry FARMER, M.G.
Wife:  Dorcas "Dosha/Dotia/Docia" HODGES/HOGGES
Birth:  Feb 1832/3, TN
Death:  in or aft. 1910
Sister:  Permelia "Melia" HODGES (b. 1829/30, TN)

"Docia" is typically the nickname for Theodocia, but I guess she didn't like Dorcas, and I know of no nickname for Dorcas.  "Dorcas" is the Greek translation of the Hebrew scriptural name, "Tabitha" — both mean "gazelle."

Children:
1.  Amelia "Melia" CHRISMAN, b. 26 Sep 1860, MO

2.  1860 Census Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #53 of 118):  Big Cedar P.O., Division 35, Jackson Co., MO, p. 189, PN 189, 1487/1534, enumerated 26 Jul 1860 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
James M. Chrisman 26 m   Farmer 3200 680 Virginia
Dotia       " 26 f   House Keeper     Tennessee
Samuel      " 10 m         Missouri
Samuel would appear to be James's brother.  They are living two doors down from the household of Thomas COOPER, in which is living Rebecca L. CHRISMAN (æ 14, b. MO), and five doors down from the Miles FLANERY household, in which is living Abraham CHRISMAN (æ 22, b. MO).  These are not James's siblings, so I presume they are his cousins.

3.  1870 Census Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #46 of 221):  Lee Summit P.O., Township 47 (Range 32), Jackson Co., MO, p. 105A, PN 63, 487/502, enumerated 28 Jun 1870 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
Christman Monroe 35 M W Farmer 7500 1500 Missouri
_________ Nocia 31 F W Keepg house     Tennessee
_________ Amelia 11 F W at school     Missouri
Amelia's age has to be a mistake on the part of the census-taker because she was not present in the household in 1840.

4.  1880 Census Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #28 of 30):  Prairie Twp., Jackson Co., MO, p. 242B, PN 28, SD 6, ED 35, enumerated 24 Jun 1880 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):

Permelia is Dotia's sister.  Living next door to subjects' daughter and son-in-law, David R. & Amelia (CHRISMAN) NAVE, in one direction; and, in the other direction, living four doors down from Abraham CHRISTMAN.

Dotia is lying about her age, big time!  Either that or the census-taker made a whopper of an error .

7.  1910 Census Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #6 of 35):  915 ???? Ave., 24th Precinct, 5th Ward, Kansas City, Wyandotte Co., KS, p. 78B, SN 3B, SD 88/2, ED 180, enumerated 18 Apr 1910 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen).    For full record, see Cline & Katie NAVE's family group sheet.

Now, that's more like it (re: Dotia's age), although now we appear to have "age inflation."

8.  Chrisman Cemetery, Section 33, Township 50, Range 31 W [link died] (online at the Jackson County MOGenWeb site):  It is said that James Monroe CHRISMAN is buried here, but he is not on this list, though it mentions there are 15 graves marked with uninscribed, native stones.

Everything I have is online at this web site.  I have no further information, so please don't write asking me if I do.
On the other hand, if you feel I've made an error, please don't hesitate to notify me, but in which case,

please include a link to the page you are referencing.
There are over 18,000 pages on this web site, and I simply don't remember every page, much less every person on every page.
