Y-DNA Haplogroup I Modal Haplotypes — with Markers in FTDNA Order
Extracted from an Excel spreadsheet created by Ken Nordtvedt and online at his web site (as of 14 Jun 2009).  The research is entirely his; any errors of extraction, interpretation, or conversion are mine.

Nordtvedt's data are reformatted here as an HTML table with markers in FTDNA order for ease of use by FTNDA project admins and members.  If you are not comparing test results from FTDNA, you will likely find it easier to use Nordtvedt's original Excel spreadsheet, rather than this page.

The nine markers routinely tested by SMGF that are not part of the standard 67 markers at FTNDA (far right in the tables) are now available a la carte from FTDNA from among their Advanced tests.  I have transferred the numerical data from Nordtvedt's chart without applying any conversion factors to the "Advanced" markers.

I re-ordered some of the rows, so they could be grouped and labeled by haplogroup subclade (as per FTNDA haplotree), and I added comparative SNP charts (last updated 8 Jun 2009).

Please do not email me, unless it's to point out an error I've made transcribing the table, in which case, I would very much appreciate your pointing it out.  Especially, please do not email me asking me to determine which variety you are.  To determine your variety, please use Jim Cullen's World Haplogroup & Haplo-I Subclade Predictor.  My only roll here was to reformat the table in HTML and put the markers in FTDNA order.  I am not an expert on Haplogroup I.  If you wish to discuss the content of the table, I recommend joining the Y-DNA-Haplogroup-I mailing list.  Ken Nordtvedt is a subscriber to the list, so if you ask your question there, he will likely respond. 
In Nordtvedt's Excel table, he has differentiated between those who have had a Kittler test (on Markers 385a,b) and those who have not by coloring the table cells kelly green if they are lo-hi and deep pink if they are hi-lo.  I have followed his color coding, but I have not reversed the numbers for those who are hi-lo.  The numbers are not going to appear reversed in most databases, so I find it confusing to reverse them.  Just be aware that's the reason for the apparent discrepancy between my table and his. 
Two rather strong bifurcations occur in Hg I.  One is at DYS455 where a value of 8 is not just characteristic of I1, but is virtually unique to it among European haplotypes.  Its value in I2 is usually 11 (less commonly 10).  The other is a pair of markers, namely YCA-IIab, whose values in I1 are universally, though not exclusively, 19,21.  (These table cells are highlighted in red.)

Another strong bifurcation is within I1, between the more southerly AngloSaxon forms and the more northerly Norse and ultraNorse forms.  This bifurcation is exemplified by values for DYS511 and DYS462, which are 9,12 for the AngloSaxon varieties (bright green table cells) and 10,13 for the Norse/ultraNorse varieties (bright blue table cells).

In Nordtvedt's 21 Dec 2008 revision of the table, the alphanumeric subclade names were replaced with the name of the most downstream SNP mutation.  To see where in Nordtvedt's haplotree these SNPs appear, see the cladogram at his web site.
Because HTML cannot duplicate the heavy cell border used for emphasis in Nordtvedt's spreadsheet, I have substituted boldface text for such cells.

Viewing hint:  to have more of the table visible without scrolling, reduce the text size in your browser.  If you are using IE6, from the menubar click View > Text Size > Smallest; if you are using IE7, use Ctrl+/- to control the page size; or, if you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, use Ctrl-wheel to change text size.

If you have scrolled so far down the page that you cannot see the column labels, hover your cursor over the table cell and the marker number will appear.  Note also that each marker panel is set off by a different color, which is visible in the spacer row between groups and which should help you orient where you are in the row.
