Obituary:  Albert Roy "Bert" STRAUB (1879-1969)

Vet Albert Straub Dies
Services will be tomorrow for Albert R. Straub, 90, a Spanish-American War Veteran and retired letter carrier who died Sunday in a local hospital after a long illness.

Straub, of 2237 Moorpark Ave., served in the 8th Army Corps in the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection.  He enlisted in 1898 in the First Washington Infantry Volunteers.

He received the Purple Heart award and a special medal from President William McKinley for participation in the campaign.

Straub, a letter carrier for 31 years, lived in Santa Clara County 50 years.  He was born in Ohio.

He leaves two son, William of San Jose and Stephen of Glendale; six daughter, Barbara Cosetllo (sic) of San Jose, Lucy Dreischmeyer of Campbell, Gale Matthiesen of Saratoga, Shirley Waugh of San Mateo and Janet Fidanque and Mrs. Ellis Boys, both of Honolulu; a sister, Josephine Peters of Florida; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. in the Santa Clara Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Transcriber's note:  Lucy (DEAN-STRAUB) LIGHT DREISCHMEYER was Albert's adopted daughter, from a prior marriage of his late wife, Nina WILLIS.
