Transcriber's Notes:

1.  William WYATT was Peter THOMPSON's son-in-law, husband of his daughter, Rachel.

2.  The fact that Peter THOMPSON is living next door to Gideon MIMS is a surprise of considerable significance, at least to this researcher, because…

George Washington THOMPSON (1835-1927), grandson of Peter THOMPSON, always vehemently asserted that he was first cousin to Jesse JAMES.  But no one has come even close to making the connection, beyond noting the geographic proximity of Robert MIMS, a contemporary of Peter THOMPSON, who lived in adjacent Logan Co., KY, and who was the paternal grandfather of Zee MIMS, wife of Jesse JAMES, and great-granduncle of Jesse, himself.  (See Pedigree Chart of Jesse JAMES.)

But the Gideon MIMS living next door to Peter THOMPSON in Todd Co. — and therefore very possibly kin to Peter's wife — was either the brother or son or nephew of Robert MIMS.  If, for example, Gideon MIMS, Robert MIMS, and Peter THOMPSON's wife were siblings, then George Washington THOMPSON was 1st cousin once-removed to Zee and 3rd cousin to Jesse (and several other more distant relationships).

Of course, the connection now hinges on the identity of Peter THOMPSON's wife, but at least the connection now appears possible, even probable, given George Washington's conviction that it was so.  And the reason this connection is of such interest to me is that I and my cousins grew up believing in the legend that our great-grandfather was a first cousin to Jesse JAMES, only to suffer a big disappointment to discover there was no evidence to document the connection.
