Indenture between Nathaniel BURRUS and Nancy BURRUS of Todd Co., KY |
Source: Todd County, Kentucky, Deed Books K-M, 1836-40.
LDS Microfilm No. 355909 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen, 21 Mar 2001).
The indenture speaks of Nancy BURRUS, "formerly the wife of" Henry T. BURRUS, with the implication that she is not a widow, but divorced. A divorce (or desertion), rather than widowhood, would be consistent with secondary sources that universally show Henry dying in 1872 when a death date is given. Peter THOMPSON is highlighted because he is the actual subject of my research, and this indenture is the earliest indication that Peter is deceased. After Peter left for Missouri ca. 1827, Nathaniel BURRUS became his agent, paying taxes on Peter's (then his heirs') land in Todd County until at least 1845. |
