The Strope Family from Germany to America
Johannes STRAUB, Immigrant to New York in 1710
Blurb by the author, Bonita Elaine "Bonnie" Strope:

The records reach back to Johannes [STRAUB] in Germany during the late 1600s and follow the line of (Johannes) Henrick, John (Johannes) & Sebastian.  The book then narrows to the author's specific line of descendants:  Isaac and Abigail, Henry and Wealtha, Ezra and Estella, LaFayette to the author's own family.

At least the first half of the book will be of interest to any families related to the Bradford County Stropes.  It is 195 pages long (8 x 11 page size), contains b/w photographs of the early American sites, a number of maps, and b/w portraits and photos of people from Ezra's generation and beyond.  The book is written in story form; it is not just a collection of family group sheets (family group sheets and ancestor charts are included for each generation and spouse).  It is indexed and has a bibliography.  It is comb bound (plastic comb tooth type binding) and is in a card stock cover and a clear plastic front cover.

For the earliest histories, the author used a number of the usual sources, along with some rare finds, for example, the original St. Nicholas writings of Judge Avery, the judge who transcribed Jane Strope's story. These were found at the Tioga County Museum in Owego, NY.  Additional information about Queen Esther and her sister Queen Catharine were found in a library in Montour Falls, NY.  The Stropes were mentioned in each of these treasures.

The elementary school site at which the author teaches was built on the old site of Queen Catherine's Indian settlement in Montour Falls, NY.  This was the place where the Strope clan was held for about two weeks during their captivity.

The Strope Family from Germany to America (1997) is 195 pages (8 x 11), with 70 b/w photographs of places, people, and the Van Valkenburg - Strope family Bible.  Johannes in Germany (1683) to West Camp, NY (1710).  Son Henrick + wife massacred at Round Top, Catskill Mts. (1780).  Third generation Sebastian and John first settlers of Wysox, PA.  Three generations of Strope/Van Valkenburg clan captured by Iroquois 1778- 1781.  Narrative style, indexed.  $29.95 + $3 shipping to Bonnie E. Strope, 5645 CR #14, Box 8, Alpine, NY 14805.
