Jane is said to have died in 1874, but I think she must have died before 1870 because the woman with Washington and her children in the 1870 census is nine years older and named, "Nancy."

Jane's father is alleged to be her white owner, James BURROUGHS, but note that in the 1860 census, her race is given as black, not mulatto.

Secondary sources show Jane born 1820, and the 1860 census would support that age, assuming she is living in the James BURROUGHS household (see above). I really question that the woman here is Jane. A woman aged 59 is too old to be the mother of these children, except possibly John.
