Alice does not show up in the 1880 census, so she must have been born a year later, which the 1910 census supports.  With regard to Column 26, you can't "own free" something you are only renting.  Listed next to William WHISTLER (60, Sep 1839, PA) and his wife Sarah E. (63, Jan 1837, PA).  A quick check of the 1880 census shows Elmar E. WHISLER (2, PA) living with his parents, William WHISLER (40, PA) and Sarah E. (42, PA), in North Sewickley Twp., Beaver Co., PA; and a quick check of the 1870 census shows William & Sarah WHISTLER in Beaver Falls, Chippewa Twp., Beaver Co., PA.
