Comments:
There are two family group sheets for these parents currently in the LDS Ancestral File. One family group sheet has our subjects' son, Samuel, married to Matilda BRADLEY in Christian Co., KY, in 1806; the other family group sheet has Samuel married to Polly BAIRD in 1799, with no location given. A search reveals that the marriage to Polly BAIRD took place in Shelby Co., KY. I see no indication that our subjects ever lived in Kentucky, so it is very unlikely that either of the Samuel THOMSONs married in KY is our subjects' son. Our subjects' migration route was from Maryland to Orange Co., NC, to Bedford Co., TN. A check of the 1850 census of Bedford Co., TN, shows dozens of THOMPSONs, including several Samuel's and even a Theophilus. The family clearly settled there, not in KY (much less, IL). I found four Samuel THOMPSON marriages in Orange Co., NC, which are much more likely possibilities than the two marriages in Kentucky. One file online at WorldConnect seems to have a handle on this family, and they show Samuel married first to Nancy TRICE (and second, to a Mary __?__), which is highly plausible. |
