The birthplaces for Fred and John look like "Miss" and "Mass," respectively, and my guess is the enumerator simply didn't know how to spell, "Missouri." Unfortunately, some secondary sources have taken these literally, as Mississippi and Massachusetts, but the 1910 census clearly shows the intent was Missouri.

The only person here born in KS is Gertrude, and if John came to KS from MO, so did everyone else.
