Are these really our subjects?  George and son, Jacob, are in the wrong age-classes, and George's initial is wrong in the record (unless he is Johan George, which is certainly possibly).  And who is the little girl?  But George is supposed to be here, and this record is the only possibility, so either this record is our subject or he was missed in the census.  Their unmarried daughter, Elizabeth, is living with their married daughter, Sarah Ann (STROUP) WHITNEY

There's probably a little age inflation going on here because Elizabeth should be a few years younger.

Annual Volume: 1898.  Pennsylvania State Library, Harrisburg, PA (reprinted 1970 by Genealogical Publ. Co., Baltimore, MD; issued 1998 as Broderbund CD-19):
p. 100
PENNSYLVANIA-GERMAN SETTLERS

In the "Genesee Country" State of New York.

III.

[Here follow the Pennsylvania-German settlers in Seneca county, New York, with county residence in Pennsylvania, as far as ascertained. This does not always indicate that the person is from that so marked, but that the surname given is extant in the county, as original settlers therein.  This prefatory note is necessary for a full understanding of Mr. Wilbers' reference.]...
p. 112 Straub, George...
What the editor states is simply that being on Mr. Wilber's list only means that the settler had a German surname that is also found in Pennsylvania.  In other words, being named on this list is not proof that the settler is from Pennsylvania although, as it happens, our subject was born in Pennsylvania.  George is the only STRAUB/STROUP on the list, though he is not the only one to have lived in Fayette.

14.  Macomb County Early Pioneer Histories (online at the Macomb County MIGenWeb site):
George Stroup
George Stroup of Pennsylvania, located in Macomb County in 1834.  His sons, George, Jacob, and Daniel also were pioneers, locating land in this county.  George Stroup died in 1858.

15.  Anon.  1882.  History of Macomb County, Michigan.  M.A. Leeson & Co., Chicago (online at HeritageQuest at Genealogy.com):
p. 775 JACOB STROUP was born March 26, 1811, in Seneca County, N.Y.; his father was George Stroup, a native of Pennsylvania, of German descent; his mother was Susan Rigel Stroup, also born in Pennsylvania and of German descent; they moved to the State of New York in 1796; his mother died in New York State in 1825, leaving a family of thirteen children: one of the children died in New York State in 1833; five children moved to Michigan in 1827 and 1828; his father married again and moved to Michigan, in 1834, with a family of seven children; of this family seven are now living three sons and four daughters.  George Stroup located in Macomb Township, Section 10, southeast quarter; took up 240 acres of land, where he lived until his death, October 31, 1858, in his eighty-second year...
It's doubtful George & Susanna were even married as early as 1796, but if so and if they moved to NY in 1796, then our subject is not the George STROUP in the 1800 census of Northumberland Co., PA.
